Freshmen Physical Education

This semester long required course affords students the opportunity to experience a sampling of offerings within the department.  The primary areas of focus will revolve around teambuilding and healthy risk-taking, motor skills in outdoor pursuits and lifetime activities, and personal fitness.  . Students successfully completing this course will be adequately prepared to take any of the elective course offerings by the P.E. Department.

Lifetime Pursuits

This course focuses on participation in outdoor lifetime pursuits.  Activities may include: mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, in-line skating, ice skating, canoeing & kayaking, and indoor climbing. Concepts and issues pertinent to personal fitness and well being will be emphasized.



Fitness Training

This class will guide students through personal fitness assessments and goal setting before ultimately

leading to the design and implementation of individual fitness plans. The components of fitness, the FITT principle, the benefits of daily exercise, and fitness and nutrition will be key components addressed throughout the course.

 

Adventure Programming

This course will center on many of the aspects of outdoor adventure activities. The primary focus of this class will be the use and facilitation of the high and low ropes course.  An advanced approach toward many of the outdoor lifetime activities as well as leadership roles and responsibilities will be addressed.
